B.K.S Iyengar said “If our bodies are our temples, asana are prayers." Ones practice shouldn't harm them, it should be an expression of devotion, a “meditation in motion." Unfortunately, most of us practice from our ego not the spirit, which is why practitioners have so many yoga related injuries (I have many myself). Contrary to popular belief, Cirque Du Soleil- level contortions are not the pinnacle of the practice. Each posture, no matter how challenging or complex, can be dissected into its core elements- its “root expressions." We will warm up with some full body opening salutations and then break down some asana into its component parts to make previously unattainable postures devotional -not dangerous.
