Mantra directs the highly sophisticated time/space computer of your mind towards frequencies of expansion, creativity, and evolution. The sound encoded in these frequencies are just beginning to be understood by the scientific community to change brain patterns, chemistry, and even the physical structure of the brain. In yogic science the repetition of sound currents is known to create a fundamental change in the actual pulsation of your thought patterns, which makes a fundamental change in your daily life, choices, and vitality. In Kundalini Yoga we use the physical force of highly charged postures with sound currents to create an environment of transformation in a very quick amount of time. This is not a kirtan class. Learn how to use sound, mudra, and movement to invoke deep states of long lasting peace, creativity, and alert intelligence.

The practice of turning upside down can be unsettling and can give rise to incredible fear (abhinivesha is the fear of death). Why would we even want to balance on our forearms, stand on our head, or imagine our hands holding us up? Because the only way to know ourselves is to come face to face with what scares us and realize that we have to stop struggling. Inversions teach us how to 'work with' rather than 'struggle against.' This class will involve partner exercises so there always will be someone who's got your back!

Radical Healing

True transformation begins when we understand there is no separation between the mind, body, and spirit. Understanding this interdependency can radically shift the way we “see” the body, empowering us to support our own health and wellness in a more integrated (and therefore holistic) way. Through yoga, we can explore the mind/body connection, the impact our emotional life has on our health, how to “read” or map the body symbolically, and how to interpret these physiological/emotional messages as spiritual guidance meant to open us to love, acceptance, and to appreciate the interconnection that binds us all as one.

Undo The Glue: A YIN Unraveling
Limited Capacity seats available

A yin yoga practice aides us in opening the deeper tissues within the body. In comparison to muscle’s hydrated nature, connective tissue is far more plastic. To effect connective tissue “growth” requires finding its “edge” with care and compassion. Through time, stillness & gravity we’ll focus on the major intersections of our body- neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles where energy tends to become bound up. By traction or compression of these areas we begin encouraging an inner “bloom," resulting in greater ease and spaciousness throughout. We’ll play the edges with 3-5 minute holds with a focus on breath & meditative awareness. The results? We unravel. And there we find greater resiliency, flexibility & comfort of being.

Deconstruct The Drama….. Breaking Down Asana
Limited Capacity seats available

B.K.S Iyengar said “If our bodies are our temples, asana are prayers." Ones practice shouldn't harm them, it should be an expression of devotion, a “meditation in motion." Unfortunately, most of us practice from our ego not the spirit, which is why practitioners have so many yoga related injuries (I have many myself). Contrary to popular belief, Cirque Du Soleil- level contortions are not the pinnacle of the practice. Each posture, no matter how challenging or complex, can be dissected into its core elements- its “root expressions." We will warm up with some full body opening salutations and then break down some asana into its component parts to make previously unattainable postures devotional -not dangerous.

Lessons we learn on the mat can translate into lessons to implement in our lives.   Boundaries we develop or don’t develop on the mat can inform or reflect boundaries we have off of it.  For each situation, each class, we look for a balance between openness and protection.  There are times we need to push and others when its better to back down. There are boundaries that protect and serve us and those that limit us.  This workshop will begin with a 15-minute discussion about defining and identifying boundaries followed by a 60-minute Blue Light flow designed specifically to provide students with opportunities to push themselves or back down in their asana practice, and conclude with a 15-minute discussion about participants’ experiences and how they may or may not see parallels between boundaries on and off their mat.

Limited Capacity seats available

The slow pace of yin and its proclivity to keep your students low to their mats lends to wonderful, artful assists. These assists from the Thai yoga therapy practice purvey the concept of gravity, edge, and the importance of breath inherent in yin yoga. They are a great tool to have in your repertoire for some earthy, magical assists...& your students will love you more for sharing them! We’ll start off with a short yin class for everyone to get in “the mood!” Then it is time to partner up, receive and apply these assists to build confidence & get ready to incorporate them into your yin offerings. Good balance and steadiness will be greatly appreciated by your students...and some familiarity with Thai massage for this class is a plus...but not required!

The Medicine of YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

The nature of yin yoga is slow & methodical...an opportunity to invite more spaciousness within the reservoir of the body's deeper layers- like fascia & ligaments. For those who like to move muscularly, fast and furious, yin yoga can be a tough thing to drop into...or mistaken as beginner’s yoga, but don’t let slowness fool you!  Yin yoga goes deep, and new discoveries in the field of fascia are emerging & fascinating!  It is thought that the fascia is not only a new anatomical form of “skeleton” by netting every bone, organ, and cell of our body into a tensile continuum but is also where a telecommunications system for our white blood cells' repair response exists. So healthy spacious fascia supports a healthy spacious immune system!  With this new knowledge in mind we'll apply the the medicine of yin's unique approach, igniting greater opportunity to enliven the body's innate healing wisdom.

Georgia is known for her creative, innovative and smart sequencing which she threads together with strong alignment cues and an emphasis on moving to the beat of one’s breath. In Georgia's signature Blue Light flow, which draws from her roots in Ashtanga and Vinyasa and personal experience, she leads a sequence multiple times before, often without even knowing it, one arrives at a certain pose, method, or idea with a fresh or new perspective. In this workshop, after a 60-minute signature Blue Light flow, Georgia will discuss how her sequences come from something small and fresh in her daily life which she often thinks of as a  “seed,” and how she uses her own practice to develop that seed.  Participants will be asked to identify possible seeds in their own lives and test out Georgia’s method in creating a short sequence on their own.

Meeting The Inner Metronome With YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

If hotter, more active yoga practices can be compared to music’s melodies, harmonies, crescendos and decrescendos, yin yoga is more like the drone in classical Indian music, tethering all the disparate parts into a single pulse with its four simple strings. If we apply that metaphor to our yoga practice, this dance with our inner metronome tethers us to a reflective, quiet, aware practice, one of repair and revitalization to the energy body. Applying yin’s long, slow 3-5 minute poses with guided breath techniques, we’ll tone down the autonomic nervous system’s tendency to stay hyped up, stressed out, and ready to go (even if it is for good purpose...like more yoga)! With time, stillness and gravity we’ll meet our personal metronome ...and widen into more spacious dialogue with the inner terrain of being.

The Class
Limited Capacity seats available

This cathartic mind-body experience, working every muscle from the ground up. There are no weights, no props, it is just you and your body. This class is as much for clearing the mind as it is for the physical body. Targeted muscle-sculpting moves are mixed with bursts of cardio, challenging your body and building an intense fire that transforms every muscle group. You will be guided to dive into a place of discomfort to access and acknowledge the patterns that you go to when dealing with intensity. Class ends with a stretch and deep breath work to calm your nervous system and allow yourself to fully release. A seated meditation allows you to leave reconnected and clear.

Twisting: Getting Over False Ideas About Ourselves
Limited Capacity seats available

When we lack self-awareness, when we don’t have a good sense of self, we need to be right, we need to know more than others, we need to come first and cannot get over it. This is asmita, or ego overdrive. When we physically and energetically twist our bodies, we squeeze out these false ideas about ourselves - all that pollutes our perception and covers the self.

Hard Core: Soft Heart…
Limited Capacity seats available

As we all know, true strength comes from the core, the power center of our being. A strong physical core will support our lower backs, organs, and spine, allowing us to stand up straight and focus ahead with poise and confidence. A strong core will also support us emotionally, encouraging us to be strong and centered when dealing with “gut wrenching” situations. Having a “soft heart” is the root of being compassionate, and as yogis, compassionate living is an important part of our process. By opening this area through breath and posture we can allow our seat of love and kindness to expand and flourish. With a foundation of a strong core and an open heart we can stride through life with confidence and concern for ourselves and others. This will be a flowing practice, strung together by breath with lots of core engaging and heart opening work throughout.

Skygazing & YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

Combining yin with an ancient Tibetan meditation technique called SkyGazing, the first 45 minutes of class will focus on a nutrifying yin practice to prepare the body for sitting while enhancing greater stillness of the mind. Then comes SkyGazing, a core practical application of Dzogchen meditation. It is another way we learn to relax, let go, and let be in the natural state of things just as they are. In SkyGazing we merge the finite, thinking heart-mind with the absolute, unconditional infinity of essential Buddha-like being. SkyGazing can be done anywhere, but is best suited to outdoor settings, like beautiful Stratton’s setting in the mountains of Vermont! Weather permitting, the meditation segment will take place outdoors!
