Undo The Glue: A YIN Unraveling
Limited Capacity seats available

A yin yoga practice aides us in opening the deeper tissues within the body. In comparison to muscle’s hydrated nature, connective tissue is far more plastic. To effect connective tissue “growth” requires finding its “edge” with care and compassion. Through time, stillness & gravity we’ll focus on the major intersections of our body- neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles where energy tends to become bound up. By traction or compression of these areas we begin encouraging an inner “bloom," resulting in greater ease and spaciousness throughout. We’ll play the edges with 3-5 minute holds with a focus on breath & meditative awareness. The results? We unravel. And there we find greater resiliency, flexibility & comfort of being.

Art of Vinyasa-Can We Avoid The 'How Did I Get Here?' Q.
Limited Capacity seats available

How to move through the succession of changes that occur from moment to moment, from posture to posture, with a purposeful placement of the body (nyasa), a gentle awareness of the breath (outer vinyasa), and a single-pointed intention (inner vinyasa). As we move consciously on our mat, we begin to align our energy, heart, and mind and thus realize that we are not limited to one static form or fixed state of mind. Through conscious movement we become aware of our expansive potential.

Elemental YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

With the Chinese 5-element “cycle of promotion” as thematic, we’ll adopt a yin yoga approach to poses & breath while applying characteristics of the 5 elements -earth, metal, water, wood & fire. Awareness for this cycle of promotion (think “birthing” of one element to another), and a practice focusing on these elemental attributes aides us in becoming more physically & mentally aware, while respectful of the ever unfolding continuum of life. How these elements intertwine with everything outside & within us can bring fresh insights into our experience of yoga, breath & energy.

Within The YIN: The Art of Thai Assists
Limited Capacity seats available

The slow pace of yin and its proclivity to keep your students low to their mats lends to wonderful, artful assists. These assists from the Thai yoga therapy practice purvey the concept of gravity, edge, and the importance of breath inherent in yin yoga. They are a great tool to have in your repertoire for some earthy, magical assists...& your students will love you more for sharing them! We’ll start off with a short yin class for everyone to get in “the mood!” Then it is time to partner up, receive and apply these assists to build confidence & get ready to incorporate them into your yin offerings. Good balance and steadiness will be greatly appreciated by your students...and some familiarity with Thai massage for this class is a plus...but not required!

The Medicine of YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

The nature of yin yoga is slow & methodical...an opportunity to invite more spaciousness within the reservoir of the body's deeper layers- like fascia & ligaments. For those who like to move muscularly, fast and furious, yin yoga can be a tough thing to drop into...or mistaken as beginner’s yoga, but don’t let slowness fool you!  Yin yoga goes deep, and new discoveries in the field of fascia are emerging & fascinating!  It is thought that the fascia is not only a new anatomical form of “skeleton” by netting every bone, organ, and cell of our body into a tensile continuum but is also where a telecommunications system for our white blood cells' repair response exists. So healthy spacious fascia supports a healthy spacious immune system!  With this new knowledge in mind we'll apply the the medicine of yin's unique approach, igniting greater opportunity to enliven the body's innate healing wisdom.

Meeting The Inner Metronome With YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

If hotter, more active yoga practices can be compared to music’s melodies, harmonies, crescendos and decrescendos, yin yoga is more like the drone in classical Indian music, tethering all the disparate parts into a single pulse with its four simple strings. If we apply that metaphor to our yoga practice, this dance with our inner metronome tethers us to a reflective, quiet, aware practice, one of repair and revitalization to the energy body. Applying yin’s long, slow 3-5 minute poses with guided breath techniques, we’ll tone down the autonomic nervous system’s tendency to stay hyped up, stressed out, and ready to go (even if it is for good purpose...like more yoga)! With time, stillness and gravity we’ll meet our personal metronome ...and widen into more spacious dialogue with the inner terrain of being.

Skygazing & YIN
Limited Capacity seats available

Combining yin with an ancient Tibetan meditation technique called SkyGazing, the first 45 minutes of class will focus on a nutrifying yin practice to prepare the body for sitting while enhancing greater stillness of the mind. Then comes SkyGazing, a core practical application of Dzogchen meditation. It is another way we learn to relax, let go, and let be in the natural state of things just as they are. In SkyGazing we merge the finite, thinking heart-mind with the absolute, unconditional infinity of essential Buddha-like being. SkyGazing can be done anywhere, but is best suited to outdoor settings, like beautiful Stratton’s setting in the mountains of Vermont! Weather permitting, the meditation segment will take place outdoors!
